The best free sports team management apps in 2026 are BenchApp, TeamLinkt, GameChanger, Spond, Heja and TeamSnap. All six let a team schedule games and message players at no cost, but "free" covers different things in each: TeamSnap's free plan stops at 15 players and leaves out RSVP tracking, Spond charges a fee on every payment, and GameChanger is free for coaches because parents and fans pay for streaming.

So the right pick depends on what your team needs most: attendance, collecting money, stats, or a league around it.

## What a 16-player team pays in a season

Take a rec team of 16 players, each paying a $200 season fee, using the published prices above:

- **TeamSnap:** 16 players is over the free plan's limit, so the team needs Premium at $10.83 a month billed annually, about $130 for the year.
- **Spond:** the app is free, but collecting all 16 fees through it costs $1.00 + 3.29% each, about $121 in fees. Collect the money by e-transfer or cash instead and Spond costs nothing.
- **BenchApp:** $0. The free plan has no roster limit, and you can mark each player paid as the money comes in. PRO ($9 a month) is only needed if you want RSVPs and reminders by text.

## BenchApp

BenchApp's free plan has no roster limit and includes the jobs most rec and adult league teams do every week: post the schedule, see who's coming, message the team, keep stats and track who has paid. Players never pay to use it.

PRO is $9 a month per team, and only the manager pays for it. It adds RSVPs and reminders by text message, which matters for teams whose players ignore email, plus automated waitlists, pay-to-play and finance tools. The free plan shows ads; PRO removes them.

**Good fit:** adult rec and beer league teams, and youth teams where the coach wants attendance and fees in one place. See how [RSVP tracking](/features/rsvp-attendance) and [team payments](/features/team-payments) work.

## TeamLinkt

TeamLinkt's Core plan is $0 and covers a whole organization: registration, payments, scheduling, rosters, live scoring and a website builder. It makes money from a transaction fee on payments, which it doesn't publish because rates "vary by size and volume." Tournaments, officials assigning and fundraising tools are paid add-ons at $425 a year each.

**Good fit:** associations and clubs that want registration and a public website for free. Compare it with BenchApp on [BenchApp vs TeamLinkt](/alternative/benchapp-vs-teamlinkt).

## GameChanger

GameChanger gives coaches and up to four staff every feature for free, including scorekeeping, lineup recommendations and game stats. Parents and fans can see the schedule, RSVP and chat for free too. They pay, from $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year, to watch unlimited baseball and softball live streams and get highlights and box scores.

**Good fit:** youth baseball and softball teams that keep score pitch by pitch and have families who want to watch games. More on that in our [GameChanger alternative](/alternative/gamechanger-alternative) page.

## Spond

Spond is free to use for any group. It earns money when groups collect payments through it: $1.00 plus 3.29% per payment in the US, added to each item in a payment request. By default the group covers the fee, though it can pass the fee on to members.

**Good fit:** clubs and groups that want a free app and don't mind a per-payment fee. If your team collects most fees in cash or e-transfer, that cost may never come up.

## Heja

Heja's free plan is ad-supported and covers the schedule, RSVPs, team messaging and file sharing, with one team admin. Team Pro is priced per team and billed monthly or yearly. Heja's pricing page lists it "from $8.33" but doesn't say whether that is per month or per year, and doesn't publish the monthly price. It adds desktop access, payment tracking, attendance stats, reminders, polls and unlimited admins, and removes ads for coaches and admins.

**Good fit:** youth teams run by one coach who mostly needs a schedule and a group chat.

## TeamSnap

TeamSnap's free plan is for teams with fewer than 15 players and includes scheduling, messaging, assignments and payments. Availability and RSVP tracking start with Premium, which is $10.83 a month billed annually or $18.99 month to month. Ultra adds unlimited roster spots for $13.75 a month billed annually.

**Good fit:** small teams that don't need RSVPs, or teams already on TeamSnap through their club. We cover the switch on [the best TeamSnap alternative](/alternative/the-best-teamsnap-alternative).

## How to choose

- **You mainly need to know who's coming.** Pick an app with RSVP tracking on the free plan: BenchApp, GameChanger or Heja. TeamSnap charges for it.
- **Your roster is over 15 players.** TeamSnap's free plan won't fit. BenchApp has no roster limit.
- **You collect money online.** Look at the fee per payment, not just the subscription. Spond's US fee is $1.00 + 3.29% per payment; TeamLinkt's depends on volume.
- **You keep detailed baseball or softball stats.** GameChanger's free scorekeeping is built for it.
- **You run a league, not one team.** TeamLinkt's free Core plan includes registration. BenchApp's [league management](/league-management) is $10 per team per month and gives every team PRO.

Before you move the whole team, add one real game to the app you like, invite three teammates and ask them to reply. You'll learn more from that week than from any feature list.

## FAQ

### Are these apps really free?

Yes, each one has a plan that costs the team nothing. The catch differs: TeamSnap limits free teams to fewer than 15 players, Spond and TeamLinkt charge a fee when you collect payments through them, Heja and BenchApp show ads on their free plans, and GameChanger charges parents and fans for streaming.

### What is the best app for team sports?

For most rec and adult league teams that need RSVPs and fees in one place, BenchApp's free plan covers it with no roster limit. For youth baseball and softball, GameChanger's free scorekeeping is hard to beat. For clubs that need registration and a website, TeamLinkt's Core plan is free.

### Which free app is best for league management?

TeamLinkt Core includes registration, payments and scheduling for a whole organization at no monthly cost. BenchApp's league plan is $10 per team per month and adds registrations, league-wide scheduling, standings and stats, and gives every team PRO.
